Located at the southern end of Cabo San Lucas (Land’s End) and separating the Sea of Cortez from the Pacific Ocean, you will El Arco, or The Arch of Cabo San Lucas. These rock formations were created from the rough winds and seas of the southern Baja Peninsula. This area is one of the most picturesque areas in the Los Cabos area. The best way to take in this site is from one of the glass-bottom boats, so you can enjoy the sea life as well.
2. Lover’s Beach
Playa del Amor, or Lover’s Beach, is located right near Land’s End and is one of Cabo’s most famous stretches of shoreline. Beach lovers say this stretch of sand is relaxing, providing a nice view of the blue water and a great spot for soaking up some sun. It sits south of Cabo’s downtown area but is easily accessible by water taxi from the marina.
3. Pelican Rock
Pelican Rock offers the most visually stunning snorkeling experience in Cabo San Lucas. Pelican Rock is surrounded by a natural aquarium and is part of the National Marine Cabo Bay Park. Here you will have the opportunity to snorkel and/or dive with a wide variety of tropical fish. To get to Pelican Rock you will have to be dropped off by water taxi at Lover’s beach, as the area is blocked off for swimming, snorkeling, and diving.
4. Medano Beach
Playa Medano is Cabo’s main beach, with numerous outdoor restaurants and bars along the shoreline. In addition to grabbing a cold margarita, Medano Beach offers a variety of activities from beach volleyball to kayaking and parasailing. Visitors appreciate the soft sand, clear blue water and the fact that you can actually swim in the ocean at this beach. Playa Medano is situated just south of downtown and east of the marina; it’s free to visit and there are no set hours of operation.
5. Marina Cabo San Lucas
Marina Cabo San Lucas is a world-class destination marina that offers an outstanding range of on-site conveniences for luxury yacht owners and their guests. Located in the heart of downtown Cabo San Lucas, Sammy Hagar’s Cabo Wabo Cantina is known as one of the best nightclubs in the city. However, rather than being filled with spring breakers, the club is geared toward a slightly older crowd. Travelers suggest visiting Cabo Wabo for the atmosphere and live music, rather than the food as the menu is limited. Be sure to check out their Happy Hour though!
7. Church of San Lucas
The Iglesia de San Lucas, or Church of San Lucas is the main church in Cabos San Lucas. The landmark is an excellent place to view local architecture, as well as observe local traditions. The Catholic church was constructed by a Spanish missionary in 1730 and is surrounded by a pristine plaza that contains a variety of restaurants and small shops. Even with renovations, the church remains relatively unchanged since the 19th century, making it ideal for exploring the city’s architectural past. Mass is held here on Saturday evenings and on Sundays.
8. San Jose del Cabo Main Square
If you’re looking for a taste of local flair, be sure to visit downtown San Jose del Cabo. There are a variety of shops with small souvenirs, as well as good bars and places to eat. Visit on a Thursday night to experience the magic of the Art Walk. San Jose del Cabo Main Square is one of those places you must visit while vacationing in Los Cabos.
9. Mission of San Jose del Cabo Church
The Mission of San Jose del Cabo Church is located in the middle of the old town square and is still in use today. It was built in 1730 and has been beautifully maintained and reconstructed with some of the original architecture. Stopping by this little church, either to attend a service or to pray, offers an experience of local culture and architecture. There’s a lot of history to be learned here, so be sure to read the plaques around the church.
10. Cabo Pulmo Marine Preserve
Cabo Pulmo is a national marine park on the east coast of Mexico’s Baja California Peninsula, approximately 60 miles north of Cabo San Lucas. It is the location of the oldest of only three coral reefs on the west coast of North America. The reef, estimated to be 20,000 years old, has eight fingers of hard coral reef, providing a safe haven for many of the 800 species of marine animals found throughout the Sea of Cortez. Before the establishment of the park, the area was heavily fished and the creation of the national park has been extremely beneficial to the marine ecosystem.
